AI Advisor
The AI advisor is the heart of Piehole. It knows your calorie goal, your health profile, and what you’ve eaten today — so it gives real, personalized advice instead of generic nutrition trivia.
Asking a question
Head to the Piehole tab (the first tab, the home screen). Type any question in the box at the bottom and tap send.
You can ask about:
- Whether a specific food fits your day (“Is a bagel with cream cheese going to blow my calories?”)
- How to hit your protein goal without going over on calories
- What to eat before or after a workout
- Whether your diet is missing anything based on what you’ve logged
- General nutrition questions
The AI has your full health profile — age, weight, goal, conditions, allergies, preferences — so it gives advice that’s relevant to you specifically.
Analyzing a photo
Tap the camera icon inside the text box to analyze a meal.
Take or upload a photo of:
- A plated meal (home-cooked or restaurant)
- A menu board
- A nutrition label
- A grocery receipt
The AI will identify what’s in the image, estimate calories and macros, and give you context on whether it fits your goals. You can follow up with questions in the same conversation.
Photo analysis uses more AI capacity than text queries. Free tier users get 1 photo analysis per day. Pro users get 20.
Looking up a restaurant
Tap the search icon in the input area and type a restaurant name. Piehole fetches the restaurant’s menu from the web, extracts the relevant info, and passes it to the AI.
Ask things like:
- “What should I order at Sweetgreen if I’m trying to hit 40g protein under 600 calories?”
- “Is the In-N-Out Double-Double going to wreck my macros today?”
- “What’s the healthiest option at this menu?”
The AI will look at what you’ve already eaten that day and factor that into the recommendation.
Logging food from a suggestion
When the AI mentions a specific food or meal, you’ll often see a Log this button below the response. Tap it to add the item directly to your food log without going through the search flow.
Daily calorie budget bar
At the top of the Piehole tab, there’s a bar showing your calorie budget for today. It fills as you log food. Go over, and it turns red.
This gives you at-a-glance context before you ask the AI anything — you can see exactly how much runway you have left before typing a single word.
Conversation continuity
Each session with the AI advisor maintains context for 30 minutes. If you ask a follow-up question, the AI remembers what was said earlier in the conversation.
After 30 minutes of inactivity, the session resets. This keeps conversations focused and costs down.
